Shih Tzu Vaccination Guide In the Philippines

How vaccines work in Shih Tzu dogs

Vaccines work the same in Shih Tzu dogs as they do in humans. Weakened viruses are injected through the muscle of your Shih Tzu dog. Their bodies will then generate antibodies to attack the weakened viruses and eventually kill them. Because your Shih Tzu dog now has antibodies for those particular viruses, their bodies can fight them off in case of an infection.

Vaccination schedule of your Shih Tzu Dog

Some of the most common vaccines for Shih Tzu dogs are the Leptoferm C-I (Leptospira Canicola Icterohaemorrhagiae Bacterin), Vanguard Plus 5 (Canine Distemper Adenovirus Type 2-Parainfluenza-Parvovirus Vaccine), and anti-rabies vaccines.

In terms of the Shih Tzu vaccination schedule, you can use the guide below.

Vaccinate puppies at 6 weeks of age and then every 2 or 3 weeks until 12 or 18 weeks of age with the following:

  • Canine distemper
  • Infectious hepatitis
  • Canine parvovirus,
  • Canine parainfluenza virus
  • Leptospirosis
  • Kennel cough

Thereafter, revaccinate every year.

Vaccinate your Shih Tzu dog every 6 months with an anti-leptospirosis vaccine.

Vaccinate puppies starting at 3 or 4 months of age with an anti-rabies shot and then a booster shot after 1 or 3 months. Thereafter, revaccinate every year.

Deworm puppies at 2, 4, 8, & 12 weeks of age and then every 3 months.

For breeding females, deworm before mating, at one (1) week before giving birth, and then at three (3) to four (4) weeks after birth

For heartworm prevention, start at 6 weeks old and then either every month or every 3 months. Heartworm is transmitted by mosquitoes.
